How to use the free text search field

The words written in the free text search field are used as search criteria without consideration to sequence and what part of the log the words appear in. If the search keywords are put in inverted commas (” ”), it is considered a sentence e.g. ”Divide by zero exception”.

In addition to this it is possible to search for important parts of log data. This is done by writing a prefix followed by an equal-sign and the search keyword. There must not be any spaces in between. For instance to search for the source (it could be the place in the code where the log is logged in UptoLog Satellite) can be done by writing:
        source=c:\SomeDirectory

A whole sentence can be searched for by writing a prefix followed by an equal-sign and the sentence put in inverted commas (” ”). This could be used if the path contains spaces. Here is an example:
        source:”c:\Program Files\Some Directory”

The following prefixes can be used:
  • Ip – an entire IP address or a part of an IP address is searched for.
  • Machine – the name or a part of the name of a server or a client PC is searched for.
  • Text – Only text is searched for. For instance fields that contain an IP address are not searched in.
  • Url – a URL or a part of a URL is searched for.
  • Product – a product name or a part of a product name is searched for.
  • Tmname – the name or a part of the name of a time measurement is searched for.
  • Username – a username or part of a username is searched for.

It is registered who has opened the log

Every time a user looks at a log, it is registered. A user can choose either to look at a list of logs or to look at a specific log to see the details of it. It is registered which of the two ways the user has used to review the log and subsequently it appears in the specific log. This function is used as a help during trouble shooting, where it can be an advantage to know if others have started trouble shooting.
