Logging of errors

All errors from all applications are gathered in a central place where it is easy to compare and correct errors, both regarding the specific application and across applications. An error is bound to a specific activity so it is evident which of the activities failed. Since all other logs are also bound to a specific activity it is possible to combine a trace and an error and thereby get more information during an application failure. In the same way it is possible through the time measurement of the activity to see if the time used for the activity has been increased. UptoLog operates with three different levels of errors: Fatal Error, Error and Warning.

Levels of errors are overall defined as:
  • Fatal Error: The error results in the application being unable to continue and the user has to start all over again. The application may have to be restarted.
  • Error: The error results in the application not transacting the operation in question, but it is possible to try again. It is possible to execute other operations in the application.
  • Warning: The error occurs in a small part of the operation but the operation is still partly executed. It is possible to continue with the same and other operations in the application.

The levels of errors can be freely configured to fit the application that uses UptoLog in the best way possible.

Through the UptoLog Search Server it is possible to search through errors. It is possible to find a specific error and see if there are other errors of the same kind or errors similar to it. UptoLog Search Server finds all the errors that match the search criteria and shows them on a list. On the list it is only the most important details from each error that are shown to make the user able to survey several errors at once.

From the error list it is possible to see all the details of each error such as error description, stack traces, the source of the error, server name, application, etc.
