Example of time measurement
The example shows
time measurement
of an activity and with that the response time of the test application.
Time measurement on two physical or logical layers is made.
The .NET test application
In the example a .NET test application is used. This application consists of a C# Windows application
(SomeWindowApplication) that calls a C# web service (SomeWebService). When the web service is called it
makes time measurement of the call and the internal time usage of the webservice.
The Windows application makes time measurement of the total time usage also including the time usage
of the call to the web service and internal handling of data.
If you would like to test the example, the test application can be downloaded
here.
The test application is .NET 3.5 application and it is located in a Visual Studio 2008 solution that also contains other examples including an ASP.NET web application.
The test application logs in the online UptoLog Log Server for testing.
The logs can subsequently be seen through the online UptoLog Search Server for testing.
Where you can try the search options in
UptoLog Search Server
and view how the logs are visualized.
If you want the test application to log in your own
UptoLog Log Server
the UptoLog Log Server URL in all config files must be changed to point at your own server.
Further information can be found in
integrate UptoLog Satellite.
Time measurement visualized
The logs are gathered in
UptoLog Database
which makes it easy for
UptoLog Search Server
to search across all time measurement and show time measurement consecutively.
Initially time measurement of the Windows application is found and the details of time measurement
are studied. After this all time measurement of an activity connected across physical and logical
layers is studied.
Here the latest time measurement of the Windows application (SomeWindowsApplication) is found by searching
for product name.
As can be seen the
activity
contains 2 time measurement. To see the details of a time measurement, the heading is clicked.
Here the details of time measurement of the Windows application are shown. It is shown where
time measurement starts and where it stops in the code. The connection between time measurement is also shown.
To see all time measurement of the activity the link View Time Measure activity is clicked.
Here gathered time measurement of the whole activity is shown. It is possible to see the connection
between each time measurement even if the time measurement is from separate applications on two
separate physical or logical layers.
